OUGD405 - Studio Brief 01 - Final Supergraphics

Based on my shadow experimentations, I produced a final set of supergraphics which would be used to provide a fixed shadow image to help with distance and direction as part of my wayfinding system. The venue symbol represents Hyde Park Picture House. This had to be altered and simplified so that it would work as one solid image, rather than having various other small details, however I have done this as to not compromise the overall design and is still recognisable as a symbol of the venue. The thickness of the strokes also had to be increased otherwise printing onto vinyl would be a complicated process.

I also decided to alter the distance and direction symbol to fit within the same circular shape as my pictograms so that these would all be standardised in their form and I felt these would work better together than if I had kept it alone, as you can see in the last of these three images. This would also add to the objectivity of the symbols, as they all fit within a universal guide. The design of the distance/direction symbol uses some of my initial ideas by using the depth of a shadow which is created around the image itself. This helps to show the direction better, as it is clearer to see where the sharper point is. Each of these symbols will be printed onto black vinyl for use outdoors and be a size of 420mm x 420mm (the shorter side of A2).
