OUGD405 - Studio Brief 01 - Initial Experimentation

This initial experimentation shows quick sketches of some ideas based on the theme of film, light and shadows. Some of this uses the aesthetic of a film leader, which is used to countdown the start of a film and produces a grainy effect. The numbers situated within the circle would continue to represent time, but in a different form other than a countdown. This would reflect time or distance to the next film venue, which would be accompanied with arrows from each intersection showing direction.



















Another of my ideas was to create a wall fixture which would have type or an image cut away from it which would form a shadow on the surface beneath that helps with direction. However, it became apparent that this would be a problem, as shadows change direction when the sun moves throughout different times of the day. To overcome this problem, I would create one fixed shadow either using a spotlight or supergraphics. The fixed shadow would have one side emphasised for clarity in direction. Further from this, I also experimented with using the depth and outlines of a shadow to create symbols rather than using the complete shadow itself.
