Since it was found in research that electronic music has stylistic origins in Modernism, it was decided to conduct further visual research into how designers have used modernism to inspire existing logo designs, particularly looking at typographic modernist logos, since the client wants the logo to fully incorporate the brand name 'POGSEE' without use of symbols.
Logo Modernism by Jens Muller and Julius Wiedermann.
Typographic logos:
'Alongside abstract or semi-representational images, lettering and word-marks play a key role in modernist logos. While the meaning of a symbol-based logo can only be deciphered when words of explanation are added, typographic signs are instantly "legible". In addition to popular word-marks, usually showing the full name of the company, single letters or combination of letters, represent a special kind of typographic logo. Following in the age-old tradition of the monogram, one or more single letters stand for a company's complete graphic identity'.
Single letters and form:
The client stated in the brief that the logo should be/work in a square format for use on social media sites, such as Instagram and Soundcloud. This book has also been used as visual research into ways in which type can be modified to fit certain square forms and constraints, as well as the occasional circle format (for Instagram's profile image).
