OUGD603 - POGSEE Logo Design - Vaporwave Aesthetics

Vaporwave is a microgenre of electronic music, an art movement which emerged in the early 2010's. The music appropriates 1980's and 1990's styles of mood music, such as smooth jazz, elevator music, R&B and lounge music, typically sampling or manipulating tracks via chopped and screwed techniques, and other effects.

It's surrounding subculture is sometimes associated with an ambiguous or satirical take on consumer capitalism and popular culture, and tends to be characterised by a nostalgic or surrealist engagement with the popular entertainment, technology and advertising of previous decades. It also incorporates early internet imagery, late 1990's web design, glitch art, and 3D-rendered objects in its cover artwork and music videos.

Colour Schemes:
Based on this visual research, it was found that there seems to be certain categories of colour schemes associated with the aesthetics of vaporwave. The main one makes use of more darker colours, often highlighted with lines of neon colours, such as pink and purple. These are often paired with scenes of cityscapes at night, using the neon elements to provide a break of vibrant colour through the darkness.

Some of these colours are also quite contrasting, particularly the purple and the yellow, something which could potentially be used in logo development to make the 'pog' and the 'see' stand out from each other individually.
