In order to quickly gather various different ideas, some rough thumbnail sketches were drawn out, limiting myself to a square format which the client suggested to use if possible, taking inspiration from elements found in both written and visual research, such as:
- Elements of Modernism and Futurism.
- Splitting text into bars to represent sound bars on computer software for music, sound, and video production, which would also have potential to be used within moving image.
- Layering text to represent the layering of different sounds, instruments and beats.
- 3-Dimensional formats.
- Incorporating imagery into the text itself to represent some components of synthesisers and technology used in the history of electronic music and sound sampling.
- Connecting letters to show the name as one whole.
- Circular formats to represent vinyl recordings/vintage sound recordings/the idea of sampling, as well as experimenting how this would work on social media formats like Instagram.
And potential ideas suggested by the client, such as:
- Mirroring text horizontally.
- A 1:1 ratio with three letters per line, which was found to work well with the square format.
- Long descender on the 'p' containing the rest of the text.
- Aesthetics inspired by vaporwave, by combining both lowercase and uppercase letters (even though the client stated this should not be done without good reason), however this is something which was found to be present in some of the typographic aesthetics of vaporwave.
- Aesthetics inspired by (vintage) technology, experimenting with the use of scan lines, line text to represent circuit boards, split text to represent technological glitches (and vaporwave).
