Looking at my personal collection of event tickets it was found that typically these seem to be quite plain and simple in design, with mostly text and no imagery. Some initial sketches of how the information could be formatted on these ticket designs were sketched out based on these existing tickets and the information which would need to be featured on them. It was decided that there should also be a section at the end of the ticket which can be ripped off when you attend the event so that the staff are aware you have used that ticket, something which typical event ticket designs also have.
However, although many existing ticket designs typically seem to be plain in their design, it was thought that these are an item which people usually keep as a memento of that event, therefore it was decided these should be more playful and colourful in their design, utilising the event branding in the use of the two different patterns and colour schemes, creating a border which the typographic information could be contained within.
Thinking more about some of the elements needed on a ticket design, one of these was a barcode which the staff can scan as a record of the amount of tickets sold and used. Initially these were placed in the end section which can be ripped off the ticket, however the use of imagery meant that this got covered slightly and if real may become a problem to scan. This was then placed on its side instead so that it fits better with the size of the ticket and fits better with some of the negative space that removes the problem of this barcode being unscanable. The addition of the events logotype and BPS logo have also been added to show clearly what the ticket is valid for.
Other information added to further design developments were placed in small boxes, a layout which is consistent with some of the other branding elements whilst also being consistent with some typical event ticket layouts which allows the information in the boxes to change depending on dates and the name of the ticket holder. The logotype was also re-placed so that the other information could be placed more structurally on the ticket design.
Based on previous developments, it was challenging to think about what information would be contained within the section at the end to fill it up efficiently. For this reason it was considered that perhaps this was too big and so the size of the ticket was made slightly smaller, moving the barcode to the main section of the ticket and adding the logotype into the smaller section again along with a small section of what the event is about and the ticket number so that when this is ripped off the staff have an idea of the amount of tickets sold and used. Additional information added to this ticket design were the ticket number, price, address and time of the event.
