OUGD504 - Studio Brief 01 - Singapore Brand Guide, Foreign Policy

This guide is the first edition in a series designed by design studio, Foreign Policy Design Group. The guide focuses on the most iconic and well-known brands of Singapore, the purpose being to produce a documentation of the creative inspirations and design processes of these brands through design reports that 'rounds up the iconic homegrown brands that attest to the current golden age of design in Singapore'. The guide uses simple methods of binding content together through the use of paper clips, tape and pockets filled with collected materials, such as pull-out maps. All material and content has been hole-punched and held together using a metal ring-binder, giving flexibility to the content.

The nature of this guide is very subjective, with no strict layout as some elements have been overlayed and material can be added in as additional content. Ideas can be taken from the design of this guide and transferred into my publication, since both are quite personal, and can be used as a resource for designers. Similar methods of production, such as using tape, were suggested through crit sessions which would make the layout unique, as well as playing on the idea of negative space which was considered as a way to link the publication to the subject matter itself. Since I have been given little written content to work with, type could be another aspect to play on through the manipulation of size, leading and kerning of letterforms.
