OUGD603 - Penguin Student Design Award (The Establishment) - Previous Non-Fiction Winners
As part of my research it was decided to look into previous winners for the non-fiction category in order to see what the judges look for in a winning design. It was found that for this category winning entries varied a bit in their designs, however one thing which was thought to be consistent amongst them all was a strong use of typography, which is a part of Penguin's judging criteria. In all these designs, type has been used in various experimental and playful ways, which match the themes presented within the books themselves. Whilst the use of imagery is also strong in most of these designs, it is the type which tends to bring it all together, therefore this is something to consider when designing my entry.
