In addition to the analysis of the existing Ohh Deer branding, research was also conducted into previous papergang box designs in order to get a sense of what the company look for in designs for these. The research found that the designs typically vary between each month, dependent on the theme and the style of the illustrator or designer they worked in collaboration with for that month. The designs varied from either being very minimalistic or using fairly detailed surface designs. For instance, last October's box featured a design which was described as 'contemporary breton', an incredibly minimalistic design featuring a series of dots and striped patterns.
In contrast with this, the previous month's box for September featured a much busier design by illustrator, Natasha Durley, which makes use of bright colours, textures and bold block shapes
Through analysing such designs, it was also found that the boxes and content within all work effectively in producing an overall theme. In doing this, however, the designs across all products have not simply plastered the same images across each one but produced separate illustrations appropriate for the format of each product, but still convey the same aesthetics. In this sense, it means the products can be sold both as a whole as well as individually. This will be taken into consideration when producing my final designs in ensuring that designs are varied and appropriate for each individual product.
