OUGD503 - Pitch A Papergang - Type Experiments

As part of the initial ideas development stage of this design process, it was decided to work with typography as well as image which could potentially be used in the production of witty slogans which can be seen as present in many of the company's existing products, as well as for text written on the greetings card designs.

Handwritten experiments were sketched out initially in order to produce type reflective of the brand's existing logotype which takes on a similar handwritten aesthetic through breaks in the lines which are representative of the style of painted letterforms. This idea was then transferred into the production of type which can be used to communicate a sense of Halloween with some typographic treatments using a similar uneven stroke width to present an uneasy feeling that you may feel from the scarier aspects of Halloween. This has also been done using a contrast between thick strokes and thinner, sharper ones again reflective of the 'spooky' Halloween theme.

Other elements of type played on the more fun side of Halloween, producing curved characteristics such as curls instead of the use of serifs. This type style was also thought to communicate something more magical within the designs. Smaller aspects of imagery could also be incorporated within this use of type in order to add extra elements of fun and quirkiness into the designs which may help the final designs to appeal to it's required audiences.
