OUGD603 - Degree Show Branding - New Route (Typeface Development)

Based on concept feedback, to avoid problems that may be associated with assigning shapes and colours to each course, it was decided to keep focusing on our initial concept of diversity and representation through a different approach. In response, one member of the group devised a typeface which continued to utilise the idea of using shapes to represent diversity in a more general way, visualised as different shapes coming together to form the letters. This typeface would then be utilised on the branding material spelling out the name of the degree show, as well as to form the names of each courses which would be used on internal signage.

Overlaying this type over the photographs of the university studios and workshops we initially took for digital developments was experimented with as well as manipulating its opacity, however it was considered amongst the group that this looked too out-of-place and different from the aesthetics of the photographs. For this reason, it was decided to scrap the use of the photographs and explore the use of a simpler background that can help the typeface and its form stand out more in the overall design, making this the main feature.
