OUGD603 - Penguin Student Design Award (Wonder) - Book Research

WONDER:

The book, Wonder, follows the story of August "Auggie" Pullman, a 10 year old boy living with a medical condition often equated with Treacher Collins Syndrome, which has left his face disfigured, and his first experience going to school. The book explores the nature of friendship, tenacity, fear and kindness, explores fundamental truths about how people behave and how they should behave. Whilst reading the book, key and interesting elements were noted down, alongside brief initial ideas which came from this reading.

Interesting and key elements of the book:

'I eat ice-cream. I ride my bike. I play ball. I have an Xbox'.
- illustrations of these, include astronaut helmet Auggie used to wear.

Star Wars / Wookie.
Bleeding scream mask / Boba Fett (Star Wars themes / Halloween settings).
School settings.
- chalkboard, handwritten type.
- front cover could be a chalkboard with chalk drawings and type.

'August is the sun. Me (Via) and mum and dad are the planets orbiting the sun. The rest of our family and friends are asteroids and comets floating around the planets orbiting the sun'.
- use this line as imagery, place Auggie in the middle, with family surrounding.
- illustrations of planets in the solar system.

Notes put into lockers.
