OUGD603 - Penguin Student Design Award (Wonder) - Design Developments (3)

These third set of developments use a similar style and format to the second set of developments, however instead of using a chalkboard, the cover has been designed to look as if it is a school textbook, featuring doodles as if done by a bored student in class, representing the other themes present in the book and the likes of the main character August. The realistic textured notes have continued to be utilised in these for the same reasons as before, representing the notes the characters send each other at school. The background also uses a textured background which has been designed by scanning in the cover of one of my own textbooks, giving it a used feel. The same style of typography has also continued to be used on this set of designs which in this context looks as if it has been written in crayon, same goes for the illustrations.

Other variations of this design explore the use of different colour and how these combinations work together. For instance, one additional colour that has been utilised is the use of red, attempting to represent the different colour pens typically found in schools (red = marking pen) and the forgetful nature of students in their equipment so using any pen they find. Other colour variations utilise the colour blue, again in an attempt to explore and create small consistencies between these designs and the original, existing cover designs of the book.
