From the initial name of 'Dimensions' to represent the degree show, it was decided that the name 'TOGETHER' would be more fitting in representing the university as a community of creatives coming together for the final time before graduating. In developing our concept more visually, the typeface was then used to spell out the title of the show, manipulating this to feature the same style of shadow around the letterforms as used in initial digital developments in order to give the text some depth and stand out from the background. The university's logo was manipulated in this same fashion and textual information used a serif typeface to match that used on the logo.
However, rather than keeping the background as one solid colour it was thought about how we could add another dimension to this which would help enhance our idea better in its communication whilst not limiting the main typographic element. Further developments then looked at adding in smaller elements of shape taken directly from the shapes used to form the typeface in order to create some consistency between the two elements. The idea behind this was to show how all the shapes come together to form the typeface, using this as a metaphor to communicate all the different courses and students coming together for the end of degree show as a community of creatives. Variations were created where the smaller shapes both did and did not have a shadow similar to the typeface.
Variations similar to the ones above were also created but this time exploring the use of a more chaotic format where the shapes overlap the type, however it was thought that perhaps this took too much attention away from the main element typography.
In order to further communicate the idea of a community, one group member came up with the idea of using representations of people as if they are building the typeface themselves and created some initial visuals representative of people, taking inspiration from the style of pictograms, which could be inserted into the designs.
To give these designs more variation, different colour schemes were also experimented with. In all these design developments black and white have been utilised alongside another colour which has been made to present an underlying element of consistency where this third colour has been used in different shades to contrast the type with the background whilst still remaining consistent.
