OUGD404 - Studio Brief 02 - Existing Exhibition Poster Research

Before the production of final outcomes, research was conducted into the layouts of existing exhibition posters for the Natural History Museum. Two of the examples below show posters for the launch of the 'Treasures' exhibition in it's Cadogan Gallery. These were designed by Krow Communications, and are made up of three images of different objects from the museum's collection, combined as one. Each layout shows a clear hierarchy of information. Hierarchical grids are based on intuitive placement of elements. These are commonly found within web designs when information needs to be placed in order of importance, however can also be used when a design does not fit the structure of other grids. This research will act as inspiration for the format and layouts of my own exhibition posters, for instance the logo is always kept consistent in the top left-hand corner of the frame, whilst the imagery fills most of this frame or at least is kept as the main focus.
