OUGD406 - Studio Brief 03 - Invitations

It was initially decided that the invitations should take on a similar format to those of the flyers and posters. The invitations therefore also featured a receipt photographed amongst various colourful backgrounds within the public spaces of Leeds. A few design variations were produced, however feedback suggested that we should choose one of the strongest photographs and use this consistently throughout all the invitations. This chosen image was then modified to produce tints of five different colours, each one representing a different category we would use to curate the exhibition; history, culture, politics, society and miscellaneous.

However, although a strong use of photography, further feedback from other groups suggested that the invitations needed something in order to make them more engaging since these will be handed out to potential audiences of creative studios and college alumni, and therefore spark an excitement to view the exhibition. It was suggested that through these invites the receipt concept should be pushed even further to it's limits. These were subsequently modified to fit with this aesthetic.

The developed invitations took form of a receipt roll itself, which would be rolled up and handed to the relevant audiences which means they would have to engage with the material to get a sense of what is being communicated. The colour scheme of these also proved to be more consistent with the overall exhibition identity since it uses an off-white colour on one side and the pink shade representing ink on the reverse, rather than using five irrelevant colours which we were originally using to represent each category of print.
