OUGD406 - Studio Brief 03 - GRADE 2 Colour Inspiration

When considering colour schemes for our identity, initial research was conducted into existing exhibition branding. One of these exhibitions was the Germany 101 exhibition, which consisted of 26 large letterforms that each held a specific meaning in regards to German culture. This colour scheme made use of pink and blue, and overlapping these colours to produce an effect similar to that of screen printing whereby the inks are slightly transparent. It was decided that a similar process could be used within the exhibition catalogue in the way typography has been used to produce links to themes of traditional print based on the exhibition into our identity.

We then further linked this colour scheme to that of the Leeds College of Art logo, in order to communicate the fact that it is an exhibition made up of the work of Graphic Design students at the college, as well as representing the college as a public space of Leeds which can be seen to have helped shape the city in regards to education and demographics. Through these links, we considered that the exhibition's identity would therefore meet two of the initial requirements for this brief which were to be celebratory in tone and communicate themes of traditional print.
