OUGD406 - Studio Brief 02 - Final Rationale
These prints aim to celebrate the work of aviation pioneer, Robert Blackburn through two events at Roundhay Park, Leeds in 1909 and 1919. In 1909, Blackburn conducted test flights using the Blackburn BE2c aircraft and later on in 1919 opened up an airport on Solider’s Field, which held a small passenger service conducting flights to both London and Amsterdam. These events and the work of Robert Blackburn helped to shape the aviation industry in Leeds. This ultimately lead to the opening of Leeds Bradford Airport which helps the general public on their travels. To reference the idea of flight, these prints take on the design and layout of an on-flight safety instruction card, which informs the audience of the event through simple illustrations and diagrams.
