OUGD406 - Studio Brief 02 - Initial Idea One

The first initial idea was to produce a timeline of images based on initial collage experimentation created during the research stage of this brief. It was found through this research that the airport which opened at Roundhay Park in 1919 operated a small passenger service conducting flights to both London and Amsterdam. The imagery would be based on this particular piece of research.

The use of contemporary collage was inspired by the creative practice of design studio, DR. ME. This imagery communicates a story of a paper plane being launched from a runway at Roundhay Park and flying to London.
The colour scheme used for this initial idea was based on research into Dadaism and the Bauhaus movement, which found that the main colours used in design through these movements were black, red and blue. Singling out the planes and making them red in colour gives them a contrast from the rest of the design. As a result, this makes them the main focus of the design which aims to celebrate the events of flight.

Following peer criticism, it was suggested that some elements of this design were too obscure and that this does not do much to celebrate the event itself. Therefore to develop this design it was decided to use the less obscure elements to produce a timeline of the plane taking off from the runway and flying over the park.
